Students we administered a 13-question multiple choice vocabulary assessment using Quizizz. I assessed first person singular and 3rd person singular of the Super 7 Verbs.

Green - Eight students already knew the vocabulary with 80% or better accuracy. Thirteen students are approaching the 80% accuracy mark.
Yellow/ Red - Eighteen students had 50% or fewer correct. One student didn't know any of the words, and two others knew 2 of the words. These students had recently transferred into my class (moving, exiting Social Skills classes). Vocabulary with the most correct responses:
Vocabulary with the most incorrect responses:
A total of twelve percent of the students earned an 80% or better. |
Across the three sections, I noticed that students had a high degree of accuracy with the word va. I also noticed that they had less accuracy with tiene, tengo, quiere, quiero, and es.
This indicates that students need more interactions with these structures. A question that I have is: Would the students respond with greater accuracy if questions were presented in context rather than by translating the words from Spanish to English? What to do with students who already know this vocabulary? Since the focus is on first and third person singular forms of the Super 7 Verbs, I expect that this group of students will know additional forms. It would be reasonable for them to know second person singular and third person plural. Some may end up knowing them all -- but needing additional interactions to acquire the vocabulary. |
