evidence of growth & Mastery (Summative Assessment)
On March 23rd, I introduced the Animal Mashup Task toward the end of the class period. I wanted to give students an opportunity to get excited! The following day, I gave them about 20 minutes to either create a creature or to find one online. About a third of the class chose to draw their creatures, while the rest chose to do theirs electronically. On Wednesday that week, the goal was to create a rough draft of their 8 sentences. Finally on Thursday March 26th, the students were able to peer edit and to complete their final copy.
Here is the breakdown of scores:

More important than their scores, is students' improvement over time. My original goals were for students to be able to:
From the evidence that I collected in this summative, students as a whole are using a greater variety of vocabulary and are showing an increased accuracy of agreement. I feel that students still need continued reinforcement with the verbs "have" and "be". An unexpected error was "my name is" or "his/her name is". In hindsight, I could have continued to reinforce those phrases - maybe in more stories. Finally, students were enthusiastic about the assessment (which NEVER happens), and many of them took risks by writing complex descriptions.
