SLO Baseline information
Baseline Assessment: Type 3 Writing ~ 12 February 2015
This summative assessment was administered at the end of a unit called "Who are you?" Students had to be able to introduce themselves as well as to convey basic biographical information about themselves.
Previous to the assessment, I had modeled how to write a Type 3 to the whole class. We used a famous person (Taylor Swift) to write about and used the grading criteria to evaluate it. The next class period, the students had to interview me, and we co-constructed a Type 3 - again using the grading criteria. The next class, students wrote a "dry run". Their peers then read the rough draft to be sure that all requirements were met and that it made sense. |
Out of the 28 students, 26 were present and took the assessment. Although the expectation was that students would earn a 95% (an indicator of novice low/ mid presentational writing), most of the students aimed for 100% (an indicator of novice mid/ high presentational writing). One student earned a 70% because she wrote one third of her Type 3 in English; thus, I did not have enough evidence to evaluate her appropriately. This is not an indicator of her typical performance. Three other students earned an 85% - mostly due to misunderstandings.
I would like to see growth in the following areas:
