evidence of growth & Mastery (interpretive reading)
On March 13th, I had students complete the
interpretive reading task. Each student received a half sheet of paper and was able to view the celebrity pictures on Edmodo. I chose to revise my grading criteria - since if they missed 1 question, they would most likely have missed 2 questions. My new grading scale for this formative task was as follows:
Here is the breakdown of their scores:

I was not surprised about how well the students did on this formative assessment. I have given them a lot of comprehensible input - both in oral and in written form. In addition, we practiced this type of task leading up to the formative. I was particular about practicing in the same format as the assessment since I knew that I would be absent on that day. On March 16 I asked the students what they thought about the assessment. Some students indicated that they did not know who some of the celebrities were but relied solely on the physical descriptions. Of the students who made mistakes, they either confused the three female singers (Lady Gaga, Lorde and Beyonce) or three of the males (Josh Hutcherson, Conan O'Brien and David Beckham). In hindsight, I should have asked them for some ideas for celebrities to describe.
