FOrmative Assessment #1 - (February)
For the formative assessment, I used the same Quizizz from the baseline assessment.
GOAL: 80% of students will score 80% or better.
RESULT: 35% earned 80% or better.
GOAL: 80% of students will score 80% or better.
RESULT: 35% earned 80% or better.
1. Thirty five percent of the students scored an 85% or better on this assessment.
2. Big improvement in vocabulary recognition in spite of not "drilling and killing" with explicit practice.
3. I wonder if administering the assessment after a period of inconsistency (snow days) could account for some of these results.
4. How can I work to improve students' overall accuracy?

FOrmative Assessment #2 - (March)
For the formative assessment, I used the same Quizizz from the baseline assessment.
GOAL: 80% of students will score 80% or better.
RESULT: 75% of students earned 80% or better.
GOAL: 80% of students will score 80% or better.
RESULT: 75% of students earned 80% or better.
1. A greater level of accuracy can be attributed to more explicit vocabulary practice during class time.
2. I did NOT include results from two additional new students who have entered my classes.
3. What is going on with the students who are not even at a 70% accuracy rate?

FOCUS GRoup - April
I still had 17 students who have scored below the 80% threshold. I decided to give these students individual, private, focused practice. I created a Quizlet for this purpose. Many students tend to play just the matching game, but I stressed the importance of practicing in multiple ways. I had them use the following functions: Write, Learn, and Test.
Next, I gave the Quizizz assessment just to the students in this focus group. Not surprisingly, their scores (and their confidence) rose. |
